Rantings of an IT Pirate

As a pirate is passionate about the open sea, such is my passion about technology. I am the first "ethical" IT Pirate.

strange way that information is picked up for Clustering Management Pack in Operations Manager 2007

I was working on some Camtasia videos this week and 1 scenario I was using was Operations Manager 2007 and the new server 2003 clustering management pack (6277).  I followed the instructions in the document which essentially conflict with what you'll read on different websites.  I think overall, if you had imported a previous set of clustering management packs, you may be safer to remove them before importing these new ones.

The packs that get imported are:

Microsoft.Windows.2003.Cluster.Management.Monitoring

Microsoft.Windows.2003.Cluster.Management.Library

Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Monitoring

Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Library

The other key area of interest here is that not everything under Windows Server Cluster gets populated.  There are 2 folders, 1 for Nodes, and the other for Networks which makes sense for clustering configuration.

Initially, although I followed the instructions to import and use the MP, I thought it was not working properly as this information was not getting populated.

Only after a thorough search through Community resources did I find this post which explains that although not logical, this is in fact expected operation to date...

Here is the reference:

I will also publish this to an OpsMgr newsgroup to see if anything else comes up.  The information is still picked up in the discovery and some basic information does show up in the cluster state, diagram, etc...  but information on the nodes and interfaces actually shows up under Windows Server State and is not displayed as neatly as it would be if the seemingly dedicated sections for the cluster were approprately populated with this information.
