Security Threats and Trends for 2010 and Beyond

Ever wondered what the most prevalent piece of Malware in Canada is, or how it got there? In this discussion we will look at many of the Security threat trends over recent months, where the threats come from and what is behind them. We will also investigate where these trends may impact us in the future, from Hackers to Malware and Phishing to Facebook.

After the presentation, join us in an open discussion with the folks from Microsoft who deal with these and many more topics on a daily basis.

Pierre Roman and Bruce Cowper will be delivering the presentation.

Pierre Roman – Bio

Pierre is a Senior Technical Account manager for the Federal sector of Microsoft Canada. As such he connects and engages with his customer to ensure they are operating they’re environment in the most efficient problem free manner.

As a Senior Technical Account Manager he uses his several years of Large Corporations Service Delivery Management experience within large complex technical environments to effectively own the operational Health of his customer's deployed Microsoft technologies.

With over 20 years of experience in the IT industry Pierre brings a well rounded view of all facets or the IT lifecycle. He has been with Microsoft since 2005, prior to that he was a Senior System Engineer for a Microsoft Gold partner where he used his extensive experience in delivering successful, cost-effective information solutions in the areas of Identify management, network and system management and deployment services.

Bruce Cowper – Bio

As the Virtualization Lead for Microsoft Canada, Bruce is responsible for the overall Virtualization strategy, from the Desktop to Datacenter and in to the Cloud. He works closely with Partners, the Government, large enterprises, Industry Associations and the Community across Canada. He comes from a background in Virtualization and security systems, forensics and data centre design. As the Virtualization lead, Bruce leverages his real life hands-on experience to relate to the challenges faced today. Bruce is a prolific speaker and can frequently be found in the media and at conferences across Canada and beyond.

Bruce is a founding member of the Toronto Area Security Klatch (TASK), the Ottawa Area Security Klatch (OASK) and an active member of numerous organizations across Canada. Before joining Microsoft and moving to Ottawa, Bruce held positions on the board of directors of several IT companies, championing the development of technical excellence and the customer experience.
