  • Talking to MVPs & Customers at MMS 2012– Brad Bird on System Center 2012 for all Hypervisors

mms2012This year I get the opportunity to connect with the sizeable contingent of customers, Partners and Microsoft Valued Professionals (MVPs) attending the Microsoft Management Summit 2012 (MMS 2012) in Las Vegas April 16-20. Each of the individuals I spoke to were very excited about what they will see and hear about Microsoft’s Private Cloud Platform, System Center 2012, as well as upcoming technologies like Windows Server 2012.

As MMS 2012 wound down I got a chance to touch base with Brad Bird, a Private Cloud and Data Center MVP from Cistel Technology and get his perspective on how System Center 2012 will enable his customers to take advantage of Private Cloud technologies, no matter what hypervisor is being used – Hyper-V, VMware or Xen Server.  We talk about how Virtual Machine Manager and Operations Manager can help to deploy and monitor your Private Cloud, how Orchestrator can help automate tasks and allow you to sleep at night, and how Service Manager can help enable self-service provisioning and end-user capabilities.  Take a look at what he had to say.

Brad Bird talks about using System Center 2012 to enable Private Cloud no matter the hypervisor

Don’t forget that you can download the full System Center 2012 suite for evaluation from the TechNet Eval center. Grab it now and try it out in your test environment, and then roll it out in your organization.

imageNow, if you can’t make it to MMS2012 and don’t want to attend Brad Anderson’s Keynote on Tuesday, you can join me for the next episode of TechDays TV where I will provide insights into what is new in Hyper-V in Windows Server “8” Beta.  There is so much new in Windows Server “8” beta when it comes to Hyper-V that we won’t be able to cover it all in one sessions, so this is only part 1 with a second session to follow.  As always, I’ll be online to answer questions during and after the session.  Looking forward to seeing you online for this exciting episode.

TechDays TV takes place every Tuesday, at 12:00 noon EST.  Episodes alternate between IT professional and developer focus so reserve the time slot in your calendar and keep coming back each week (or at least every second week for the IT professional sessions).

    Canadian Microsoft Private Cloud Launch

imageWe know that not everyone could make it to MMS2012 in Las Vegas, so we decided to bring some of the launch excitement to you.  Starting May 8th in Toronto, and travelling across the country to Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City we are bringing the Canadian Microsoft Private Cloud Launch to you.  It is going to be a whole day of technical information on how you can use Microsoft technology to help make your IT infrastructure more robust and more responsive to business pressures.  You’ll also get to see how Windows Server “8” will help allow you to do more than you ever though possible (and I’ll even do some pretty cool demos too!).

If you have not already done so, register today to attend the Canadian Microsoft Private Cloud Launch in the city nearest you.

Private Cloud Boot Camps and Windows Server “8” Beta Install Camps in the works too!!

We’re not done yet. You told us you loved the IT Virtualization Boot Camps that we organized with your local user groups in February, March & April.  In May and June we will be coming to many cities across the country with Private Cloud Boot Camps where you can get your hands on System Center 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Hyper-V and our entire Private Cloud platform.  When I say “hands-on” I mean hands-on!!.  You and your colleagues will be in the drivers seat as you implement, manage and monitor a Private Cloud infrastructure in the day-long session.

Many of you indicated that you wanted to learn more about Windows Server “8” and try out the beta.  Along with the Private Cloud Boot Camps, we will also be coming to a city near you with Windows Server “8” Beta Install Camps where you can install the operating system on your own hardware and get some guidance and information on how to take advantage of it.

More details on both the Private Cloud Boot Camps and Windows Server “8” Beta Install Camps are coming in the next week or so.  Keep checking back on this blog for all the details and registration links.

    Looking Forward to Seeing You!

I’m getting tired just thinking about all of the events taking place.  We are all looking forward to seeing you in person or online.  It promises to be fun and informative!

  • We’ll be right back after this break…

    Hello folks,image

Today started very very early, we were leaving the hotel for the conference center a 5:30am…  yes, 5:30am.  however we had a great view from the hotel window.

    DSC_0090

we were onsite at the Montreal Palais des Congres, to put the finishing touches on our Keynote presentation.  This morning, we tried something a little different.  we put together something a little special. not the usual keynote.  We put together a role playing experiment with our stars.  Our local Microsoft Regional Director, Guy Barrette, our local developer evangelist Frederic Harper, and Rick Claus our IT pro evangelist.

    image

We lived through a simulation of a real world IT problems that a lot of enterprises are facing these days. Old ASP.Net applications, obsolete servers, misconceptions about cloud computing to name a few…

The formula was very well received by the attendees since it provided real, to the point answers and live demos of the Microsoft Azure capabilities from the IT pro perspective, the developer perspective and the solution architect perspective.

TechDays 2011 Montreal is off to a great start.  Great attendees, fantastic speakers, awesome content and extraordinary partners.

you can see all the pictures as we upload them on our Flickr group. http://www.flickr.com/groups/techdays/pool

    Cheers!!

  • De retour après la pause….

    image

    Salut,

  • Scenes from TechDays Vancouver, Part 1

    (originally appears on Canadian DevBlog)

    01

Hello from Vancouver! I’m here at the first stop of TechDays, Microsoft' Canada’s 8-city cross-country conference series for developers and IT pros. It’s a gorgeous, sunny and almost cloudless day, a nice change from the gloomy weather we had this weekend.

    02

The sunshine is perfect for our new TechDays Vancouver venue, the Vancouver Convention Centre’s new west building, whose glass walls provide a spectacular view of the harbour, as seen below:

    02a

We’ve been here since 7 a.m., and the conference centre crew were here even earlier. The crowd started arriving around 8, with much of them arriving about 8:30. A little hint, folks: an early arrival means you get registered quickly, and you get enough time to enjoy a free breakfast to boot!

    03

With the clock approaching nine came the scramble for the session rooms. Vancouver Convention Centre’s West Building is a huge place, and out attendees are going to get a fair bit of exercise getting from session to session. C’mon, people, it’s good for your cardiovascular systems!

    04

Here’s Miguel Carrasco from Imaginet delivering the opening talk for the “Developing for Three Screens and the Cloud” track:

    05

And in the “Optimizing the Development Process” track, here’s Bruce Johnston talking about real-world patterns for cloud computing:
