  • Final Wrapup Video EnergizeIT–TeamEast

EnergizeIT-TeamEastWe’re back – EnergizeIT activities wrapped up last week and I finally got around to editing the final video Christian and I shot while on the road. In this one – I decided to capture what it’s like to order Tim Hortons while in Quebec as well as an impromptu wrap up commentary from John Oxley – our boss. He just happened to call while we were about 15 minutes from home to wish us well.

I can honestly say – all three teams (West, East and Rover) at a lot on our plates for covering 21 cities across Canada. Looking back on it now – I believe the team realizes that the timeframe was a little too compressed. Last year we had more time over a longer window to visit each location and make more connections. This time around we were jam packed and back to back too frequently. That being said – we went to A LOT of new cities that we’ve never been to before and hopefully managed to create some new relationships with people where we’ll be able to check back in with them going forward.

Our team is getting ready for some more planning activities coming up later this month and we’ve already started getting our thinking caps on. If we didn’t make it out your way this year – drop us a line at energizeit@microsoft.com and maybe we can work something out for connecting later this year or next year.  If you have any suggestions on things we could do next year – let us know!

  • EnergizeIT - Quebec Roadtrip – Shawinigan edition

EnergizeIT is in “extended” mode this week with sessions taking place outside of “the usual suspect” cities we normally visit. Time and resources unfortunately constrain where we go and who we connect with – but this time we managed to top off at 21 cities across Canada.

    800px-Shawinigan1[1]800px-Trois-Rivières_fleuve[1]

Team east visited  Shawinigan yesterday in order to talk with students at CEGEP de Shawinigan about how to succeed in their career in the ICT industry. It was my first time in the hometown of our EX-Prime minister Jean Chrétien. We didn’t have time to visit the Hydro-electric damn a.k.a. cité de l’énergie because I really needed to drop off my taxes at the central Taxation office.

After wrapping up the student presentation - we head out to start our trip down the road to Trois-Rivières. But before leaving – we grab a snack at a local chip shop.

    001002 (1024x768)

Francine knows how to make a mean poutine!  The cheese curds with plentiful, large and squeaky when you bit down on them. She was even nice enough to offer to swap out my Pepsi request for a coke (what I really wanted) by walking next door to get one from the bar. Quebec is mostly a Pepsi province and it’s a hard thing to find a coke when you need one.

We arrived a wee bit early, so we stopped off in town to get a coffee from Tim and a chance to plug in as I had a livemeeting with Corp on a new program that was launching.

    015

Funny thing was as we were walking into Tims – we were speaking english to each other before getting into line. The cab driver in front of us leaned over the counter to the server and said (in french) “the guys behind me are english – let me know if you need help translating their order”.  As we started to place our order (FYI: Double Double is translated as Doube Doube) – all was resolved with my Acadian accent and Christian’s Montreal accent.

Were were a bit concerned when we arrived at the venue to put on our first event in Trois-Rivières since the registration numbers were a bit low. Combine that with a later start time that was 30 minutes BEFORE the Habs 4th playoff game against the Capitals – it wasn’t stacking up well for record attendance. As start time approached – we were pleasantly surprised with less then 20% drop off! Great room and lots of interaction from the folks that came out. We wrapped up the event and made it to a local pub with 15 minutes of the 3rd period still to complete.

Now it’s the return trip about to commence. I snuck out on the balcony to snap a photo of the panorama of three rivers joining together for one last memory.

    ViewFromTheBalcony

Great hospitality. Very friendly people that were genuinely happy that we were there to connect with them. Based on their enthusiasm – we’ll be back again!

  • On The Road – EnergizeIT – Quebec Edition – Part 5

Centre-Naturalistsubtitle: Monster of all shapes and sizes.

Wrapping up this road trip from Ottawa to Quebec City involves a mix of strange companions: Nudist Camps, Monster Trucks, Dinosaurs and a little weather control.

I have to mention the Nudist camps along the route – just because there are at least three of them between Ottawa and Quebec city.  Why such a concentration is anyone’s guess. I can’t help but think of Joey making some kind of “crack” about them, the outdoor climate or the politically correct government sanctioned road sign (yes – it’s their behinds you can see).  For myself – never been there, can’t see me visiting one of them anytime soon.

As for the Monster Trucks and Dinosaurs – driving along the 20 East – you can see this restaurant called The Madrid – in the shape of a castle.  It’s on the westbound lanes side of the highway and it has quite an array of objects outside in the parking lot. It’s one of those curiosities that you should take the time to pull over and investigate. It just happened to be perfect timing as we needed a leg stretch after having the TimHorton’s coffee.

As for weather control? Freaky clouds as we approached Quebec City – there was literally an opening between two sections of this one big rainstorm cloud. The Highway was threaded between the two areas of rain – rather cool weather effect.

We’re off to CEGEP Francois Xavier Garneau to talk with students in the AM about careers and the ICT ecosystem.

  • On The Road – EnergizeIT – Quebec Edition – Part 4

    CanadianDonut

    subtitle: Donuts and coffee secrets

What’s a road trip without coffee and donuts? it’s unheard of. While on the road out east – we tried to share the secret of keeping your coffee in your cup instead of being spilt on your lap while trying to drink it in a moving car. Since the roads in Montreal / highway 20 were in the state they were in – I figured it was time for a second attempt. I requested a pit stop to pick up the necessary supplies and was pleasantly surprised by a specialty donut. You have to love the spirit of support fans of the Habs. I wasn’t going to get a donut – but I decided it needed to be done. Christian was not up for eating one – so I took it for the team.

As for coffee secrets – I recorded a second attempt at getting the proper lid design in place to prevent you from “clausing” yourself with hot coffee while driving. This time around – I was in the passenger seat.

    subtitle: Childhood memories of Roadtrips

    RoadSignSnapshot

Do you do roadtrips now with family / kids / friends? I remember a number of trips that I took as a kid in my parents yellow volvo station wagon. It’s funny how visual images bring back memories so clearly. I feel like I am going back in time when I drive on the 20 around Montreal.  That and the damn confusing road signs…

The vehicles have changed, but the road conditions and architecture has not.

  • On The Road – EnergizeIT Quebec edition Part 2

subtitle: What to do for lunch while on the road.

With EnergizeIT – we’ve visited 20 different cities and traveled by car, plane, bus and train. One thing that always comes up is “where should we eat?”. Sometimes it can take a while to settle on a place that isn’t your branded takeout food – some of the guys are more picky then others. Christian and I always try to “go local” and find something that has a lot of people in it – more people means good food / value.

We decided to stop on the western side of Montreal is a small town called Rigaud.

I particularly like Chrisitan’s impromptu song about Rigaud around 0:50 ish or so. Lunch was great – can’t beat that for $9.95.

Back to the open road - we’re making good time so far. I need a Tim Horton’s coffee.

    RideToEnergizeQuebec

Quick update – we’re on the road and living large en route to Québec City from Ottawa. Christian managed to get his summer tires on his car in time for the roadtrip. I thought we’d put up some updates along the way as we’re driving. I’m using the Bell wireless internet stick sitting in the front seat with a power inverter driving down the 417 towards the Quebec border.

    OPP-SpeedTrap

En route – we’ll have to watch out for these guys – they’re keeping the roads safe for everyone – including us.

While in Quebec – we will be doing the French edition of the EnergizeIT presentations in these cities:

Besides the Evening events – we’ll be spending time during the day at both Cegep Francois Xavier Garneau and CEGEP de Shawinagan. In between all of these activities - we’ll probably scout out a location for some time for a “Coffee and Code / Lans and Latte” – stay tuned for location details.

Here’s a trip update using the Flip Mino HD we picked up for the teams. Love that simplicity for capturing vids while on the go.

  • RunAs Radio – Nick Simons Puts Office on the Web

As part of EnergizeIT 2010 we have partnered with RunAs Radio to produce some podcasts on Office 2010.  In this episode Richard and Greg talk to Nick Simons about the upcoming Microsoft office Web Apps. Web Apps are lightweight versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote available through Sharepoint 2010 or soon via Windows Live SkyDrive. The conversation digs into how users can interoperate between regular Office 2010 and Web Apps as well as the ability to collaborate (simultaneously edit) a document with multiple users using both Office 2010 and Web Apps.

  • “Where ya to ‘der b’y?” EnergizeIT East Coast Update

People I chat with wonder what it is we do when we’re on the road with a series of activities that encompass a number of events like EnergizeIT. I’ve been peckin’ away at this post while were were on the road a week or so ago and finally made all the pieces fit and reordered in a chronological order (Yeah – I’m a little late – I know).  I wanted to share with ya how the first week of EnergizeIT has rolled out to date from a “Team East” Perspective. If this is news to you – EnergizeIT is representative of how our team uses travel time to connect with as many audiences, professionals and students whenever we’re on the road.

I thought I’d give you a taste of what it’s like and renew the offer to connect with us when we come out to your neck of the woods. You can “hit the whole team” by emailing energizeit@microsoft.com or drop me a personal note to rick.claus@microsoft.com

Monday, March 22nd – travel and connection.

I set my out of office message to set the stage to what would be our farthest Eastern reach of EnergizeIT. Based on the email responses I got from it, people liked the tone and information – I probably got around a dozen internal and external comments like this one I got from Shawn Duggan – Usergroup leader from the .NET user group “Dev East” in Halifax.

One of the best Out of Offices I have ever seen.  Well played sir.

The weather outside in Ottawa was a precursor to what to expect in Halifax. I pulled out the FlipHD cam to grab a shot from the PorterLounge prior to boarding. uneventful flight – Christian griped at the lack of TV in the headrest – I quite enjoyed it listening to podcasts on my Zune. Upon arriving and picking up the Rental Car from Avis, for some reason Christian would not let me take a video while I was driving the car. He said he didn’t want to get that realistic with the EnergizeIT Insurance footage and that it was out of the question to have a real Car Crash (I did get the extra insurance with the rental). He did oblige me by grabbin’ the HD Flip from me and catching a quick snippit as we did the lovely drive from Halifax Airport into downtown Halifax. En route – we also documented the Special TimHorton’s Spill Resistant Cup Modification/hack that I shared with the team after learning about it from a friend on the Saint John Police force a while back (for those of you interested – it’s around 2:30 in the video).

Halifax had our first example of the power of connection and Social Media. I tweeted a comment to some friends (@charlesberry and @rowser) who were driving up from Fredericton that we were going to the Elephant and Castle for a pint and a bite to eat and they should join us. As we’re watching the Hockey Game – two OTHER friends who were already in town from Sydney NS (@derb and Rob) decided to pop over as well. Good company and conversation followed by calling it a night after the hockey game in order to get ready for Tuesday’s workshop.

    SNC00071

Tuesday March 23rd. – AM - Technical Presentation Workshop.

What’s this – a Technical Presentation Workshop? I didn’t see that on the registration page for EnergizeIT. That’s true – because it’s not part of EnergizeIT. In order to maximize our time on the road, we do a number of things while traveling. In this case, our team is putting on a special “Presentation Skills Workshop” in certain geographies where individuals have connected with us over the last year and indicated they were interested in working / delivering content / presenting to their LOCAL community / user groups / professional associations and even events we put on like TechDays.

This workshop is our way of “giving back” to the ICT community and doing what we can to help the local technical professionals refine their presentation skills. It’s not open to the public – you have to contact me (interested? send me an email - rick.claus@microsoft.com) to be added to our list of possible presenters in order to get an invite. In Halifax we had just over a dozen people attend – with over 50% being net new to presenting, but had a desire and a passion to share their knowledge. The great thing about doing something like this is seeing the diverse background of  people that come from consulting firms, in house technicians / help desk staff and independent developers / IT Pros taking time off to develop their professional skills in order to give back to the community and to invest in their career.

In the PM – we were gearing up for the delivery of the first EnergizeIT event internally known as “the main event demo scenario”. Without revealing too much – we take a the audience through the process from idea to completion of a company who goes from concept to prototype to multi-client all the way up to cloud infrastructure – all from the perspective of a developer and an IT Pro within the company.

Feedback from Halifax was very positive – I was concerned at first that this “scale” might be too large to be relevant to the marketplace – but I was wrong. We had lots of interest from developers who were exploring OData and restful services and loved to see it integrated into this comprehensive solution. On the infrastructure side – lots of interest in the integration of LabManger into the Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and how it really brought virtualization / lab management into the ALM process. For any IT Pro who has to work with Developers constantly asking them for servers / test platforms and QA solutions – this piece is for you! I particularly liked the questions and observations being made about how managing services in the cloud is still going to require IT Pros to monitor and manage the applications AND that their existing skills will be repurposed to do this.

Thanks for coming out Halifax – it was great to connect with you.

Wednesday March 24th – AM – College visit to NSCC

    SNC00073

As I previously mentioned – we try to reach out to as many different audiences and areas of ICT ecosystem when we’re in town. We started the day in our favorite coffee shop in Halifax “Just Us! Coffeehouse” holding a Coffee and Code. By “workshifting” in a coffee shop and encouraging people to come on down for a coffee and a chat – it gets us out of the boring hotel and lets us meet IT Pros and Devs someplace convenient to them. If ever you hear that we’re going to your town – you’ll be sure to hear that we’re going to be holding one of these. If you’re nearby – come on down. We’d love to hear what you have to say or hang out with you and talk tech / gadgets or whatever is on your mind. I’ve fielded tech support issues from guys having problems with things in their work or at their customers environment as well as explained how Windows Deployment Services / Microsoft Deployment Toolkit / Application Compatibility Toolkit can help identify application compatibility issues as well as deploy images to systems. Basically anything is game – you just have to be there to ask the question.

After the coffee and Code – we packed up and headed out to NovaScotia Community College to meet with 60+ students and talk to them about how to Energize their career and make the most of their time to better position themselves to get a job as their program is underway / nearing completion. Christian took this one on and lead the conversation as I was playing more of a supporting role.  The room was nice split between developer/designer types as well as networking/it students. Best part of talking with students is when a group of them “get it” and start to interact more with us and start to create their professional digital persona on LinkedIn. Props go out to Ryan, Deanna, Michael, Colin, Nathaniel for quick requests to connect!

On our way back downtown – we decided to take up an offer from a consultant friend of ours to come and visit one of the T4G offices. We couldn’t find the doorbell and Christian had to look up a phone number to get someone to answer their door.

    SNC00074T4G-MainSpace (1024x814)

They are in some newly renovated space in a building that survived the Halifax Explosion. Check out the "”balcony” view of their main space and the orientation of the cubes.  You can see Kevin Bechard in the bottom right workin’ away as Darryl Dutton gave us the tour of their diggs. We had a nice chat with some of their consultants and talked with their office manager about our school visit and EnergizeIT event the night before. Interested in having us stop by next time we’re in town? Drop us an email and we’ll see what we can do to set something up. It’s important for us to connect with partners to see what projects they are up to as well as hear what their customers are saying about technology trends and what keeps them up at night.

After a quick lunch – we’re back on the road to the airport – this time en route to Newfoundland.

    SNC00083SNC00086

You’ll notice we’re flying PorterAir this time around. I must say that it’s been a very good experience so far.  Check out my snack as I took a break from editing some of the video I used here in this post. One downside? No plugs for computers or seat back TV/Entertainment. Luckily the laptop battery on my Latitude E4300 lasts about 3 hrs – plenty of time for the 1.5 hrs per segment involved with this leg of the journey.

    video of landing

As you can see from this video I shot from the airplane - we were well greeted with a dose of Atlantic weather – cold, windy and very wet. Once on the ground – we grabbed a taxi to the hotel (Blue on Water), had a concall with our team back in Toronto and out west in Edmonton to debrief how things were going so far with Energize. Because it was late, cold and wet – we just grabbed a snack and a drink in the hotel bar, watched the end of Republic of Doyle on the TV and headed to bed to catch some rest.

    Thursday, March 25th – look – it’s foggy.

    SNC00089

A shot of the morning from the hotel window gives you an idea of the weather in St.John’s today. We were up and at’em early to have breakfast and our coffee and code in St.John’s. I blogged about this one for a little more advanced notice and were fortunate enough to hold it in the restaurant of the hotel – Blue on Water. Last year we had about a dozen people come out, this time around it was smaller (about half the size) due to short notice. Jon Seary – the owner of PC-NS solutions came out with a long laundry list of questions and he brought out most of his staff for a chat.  We talked about SBS, virtualization, support issues, wonky applications misbehaving on Windows 7 as well as what his customers were asking him about Windows 7, their server deployments (virtualize with Hyper-v or not) and how we can stay in touch better when we’re not in Newfoundland. These coffee and codes are great for things like this – glad the Jon took the time to come out and bring his staff with him!

    SNC00090
Next stop is a visit to the College of the North Atlantic with about 40 first year students in their IT Program. I got the opportunity to deliver the session this time around and connect with the students talking about their career, professional network and technology trends to invest in besides honing their personal/professional skills. We wrapped up with some cloud conversations that ended up going into a tangent talking about bandwidth and data connectivity here in Canada and in “remote” locations like 15 minutes from St.John’s city center. Not long after wrapping up that conversation – it wasn’t long before getting another fresh batch of LinkedIn requests from the students.

After catching up on our emails back at the hotel and grabbing a “down home” early dinner at Velma’s (I had pan fried Cod with Scrunchins, Christian opted for the non fish hot turkey plate) we headed out to Memorial University where my friend Atul Anand had organized an EnergizeIT community event as part of “NL IT Pro”. It was a great auditorium with over 45 people who came out after work to attend the event. It was great to see an increase from last year as well as the 20+ on the spot registrations - some of which were students from the earlier college visit. The audience enjoyed the session and were quite interested in questions during the break and after the event. Similar lines of comments as before – Data protection of information in the cloud. Privacy of info and where it’s located – these are things that come up in conversations all the time – mainly because the people asking them haven’t had the time to investigate what it really means.  It’s a topic that I’m very interested in – but it’s something deserving of a post on it’s own. More on that later.

We rounded out the night by introducing Christian to George Street. He was looking for a TV with hockey – I was looking for some down east music. We found them both at Bridie Molloy's. If you are ever in town and looking for an open kitchen on George street after 10 PM – they are the place to go. I won’t say it’s the healthiest of foods, but it kind of depends on what you pick. Check out this West Coast poutine (fries, beef, fried onions, dressing{stuffing}, gravy and cheese) – in the back corner is some chips and curry. Nom, Nom!

    SNC00093

(YES - I will be paying for this at the Gym this weekend, but damn it was good).

Friday – March 26th – our return home.

With all that happened over the last week, all the people we met, places we’ve been, it’s been fun. To top it off – the sun came out and it was blue sky from the hotel window in the morning. So much so – it was time to drag Christian up to the top of Signal Hill so he could take a moment to see a bit of St.John’s from a different perspective. We hopped a cab and headed out with an hour to kill before the flight home. After stopping at TimHortons, we were on our way.

    SNC00095

Damn it was windy.  I make it a point to go out to Signal Hill every time I’m on the rock. Usually I walk the perimeter to get some exercise and some fresh sea air. This was too tight a timeline for that this time around. We checked out the view and some of the historical factoids as it was Christian’s first time.

Uneventful flight until we reached Halifax and started our descent. We were connecting through Halifax en route to Ottawa with Porter. For the first time ever (for me at least) the pilot aborted the landing and pulled up steeply due to visibility and overshooting the runway! After a couple of minutes of climbing, we leveled out and started to circle at which time he came over the speakers to announce that we were being re-routed to Ottawa directly due to the weather! What a surprise – here we are arriving a full hour early in Ottawa to get off the plane and see our families once again.

Great for us – not so great for the planeload of people heading to Halifax who had to be re-directed BACK to Halifax on the next flight.  Sometime fortune smiles on you in expected ways. It was a long week, so this was a welcome diversion from the plan to get us home early.

    Conclusion

As you can see – we try to put a lot of activities that allow us to connect with as many technical professionals from across a diverse set of backgrounds when we’re in town – wherever we are. If you follow the blog and hear that we’re headin’ out to your neck of the woods – why not drop us a line? One of thing all of the guys on the team love to do is talk tech with likeminded people. Heck – you might even end up with dedicated access like Jon did in Newfoundland and you get the opportunity to grill us for an hour or more – free of charge! Can’t beat that!

In all seriousness – drop us an email – energizeit@microsoft.com hits the EnergizeIT virtual team – or you can hit either one of us via our regular inbox – mine is rick.claus@microsoft.com.

  • Coffee and Code in St. John’s at Coffee Matters March 25th 9:30 AM

A month shy of a year, we’re heading back to Coffee Matters in St. John’s, Newfoundland for a Coffee and Code “workshifting” stint in this great coffee joint on Water Street. Man – I still remember those radical Lattes – Vanilla Berry Bliss was my favorite – but I digress.

(I dug up a snap of the boys from last year)

Last time we had up to a dozen IT guys come on out for a chat (and coffee obviously) about everything under the sun.  Are you a Technical Professional working on “the rock” and can make it downtown this Thursday morning (March 25th – around 9:30 Newfoundland time)? Come on out and say hi – Coffee is on us. Heck – bring your laptop and join us in the coffee shop to work if you can – great to have company as we’re in town. Based on the weather reports – it sounds like it will be a tad bit wet, but heck – rain never hurt anyone.

Start Time: informally around 9:30 ish until possibly noonish
Location: 320 Water Street, St.John’s NL

Other Things in St. John’s we’re doing as part of the East Coast Swing of #EnergizeIT:

    • We’ve got to head out after coffee to College of the North Atlantic for a presentation to students about careers in IT.
    • Followed by the evening Event at MUN for #EnergizeIT – Client to the Cloud. You can still register to attend FOR FREE here.  (286 Elizabeth Ave.,  Inco Centre, Rm. IIC-2001)

Looking forward to seein’ ya out there.

Depending on the city, there will be different “flavours” of EnergizeIT events. I’ve written some descriptions below, and if you want the full set of details, check out the EnergizeIT page.

The “From the Client to the Cloud” Full-Day Events (Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal)

City skylines: Vancouver (YVR), Edmonton (YEG), Calgary (YYC), Ottawa (YOW), Toronto (YYZ), Montreal (YUL)

In Canada’s six largest cities, we’ll hold our EnergizeIT From the Client to the Cloud full-day events, where we’ll cover the Microsoft-based platform in detail. And yes, even though it’s full-day, it’ll still be free!

Please note: The Toronto session is currently booked. You can register, but you’ll end up on the first-come, first served waiting list.

In the morning, we’ll talk about the big picture. We’ll show you a scenario featuring the Microsoft-based platform as seen from different points of view: the customer, the information worker, the developer and the IT professional. You’ll see our latest and greatest as well as our up-and-coming developer goodies: Silverlight, .NET 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010. We’ll show you Windows 7 and Azure in action, talk about Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010, and tell you how all of Microsoft’s stuff works together.

Just as the morning session answers the question “What’s the latest technology?”, the afternoon sessions answer the question “How do I get to the latest technology from where I am now?” These sessions, split into two tracks – one on infrastructure management and deployment, one on the development process – will cover what you can do with our tools and technology in a little more depth. They’ll show you what you need to implement what you saw in the morning session and provide a roadmap you can follow to learn more and take action.

  • Services in the Cloud. Should you really Give a Crap - yet?

(Thought that title might get your attention)

    DSCN0949

Over the last month or so – I’ve had my head in the clouds working away on creating a scenario based demo for EnergizeIT that leverages the scalability of the cloud and “transportability” of existing .net code and “n” tier architecture. I’ve been living the life of an IT Pro influenced in a “Dev” world for the most part.  I don’t know how many of you IT Pros deal with in house developed apps and are considering Azure – but it got me thinking of a more general question I thought I’d ask you.

As IT Pros who save the world every day at work – what do you think about all this “cloud” stuff?

Like – seriously. Do you think it is going to impact you in the short term? Is it something that you can “ignore” because it’s a DEVELOPER thing? Are you worried about how it will affect your day to day work? How much change will it introduce when it does “hit” your environment – if it hasn’t already. I have my on theories on it and it’s affect on “life as an IT Pro” based on research I’ve been doing over the last while – but until now – I haven’t asked YOU.

What are “cloud services” and how will it impact you?

This shouldn’t be anything new to you for the most part – you can look at it in one way as a marketing term to spin a simple concept that has been around for ages - Hosted Services. Hosting has been around for a while. Initially as something that made sense was to host your public presence of website / eCommerce (remember that term?) at a hosting provider/partner and you maintained it as a separate entity – instead of having it hosted within your own premise and exposing parts of it to the public. Cloud Services like Azure introduce scalability and performance “elasticity” for applications hosted in the cloud. But the term “cloud services” really is more then just Dev and application stuff.

Now that we’ve talked about apps - what do you think is The Next generalised workload that is a good fit for hosting? Think for a moment about your environment – regardless of size – and what takes a good chunk of your time and would MAKE SENSE to have hosted by someone else but managed and controlled by YOU. What workload would that be? What workload would you consider to offload to the cloud if you have the power to make the decision right now. Am I blowing smoke? Would you / could you do it?

OK – now tell me with a comment posted below.

EnergizeIT will be talking about “the cloud” from one perspective (with a really COOL multi-faceted scenario based demo in the morning) and it will even show you some real world examples of how it might impact your “IT Pro world”. That being said - I thought I would start a thread of conversation specifically targeting NON application hosted / developer perspectives on “cloud services” for IT Professionals here on the blog and explore the “non-developer” (for lack of a better term) focused scenarios and what it could actually mean to you in your day to day activities / tools and even roles at work as an IT Pro.

I’m anxious to read your comments.
