Installing and Configuring Microsoft’s Data Protection Manager (DPM 2007 SP1) on Windows Server 2008 Part 1)

Introduction

DPM 207 SP1 brings disk-based backup and recovery to enterprise networks as part of Microsoft’s new System Center product umbrella that also includes Microsoft Operations Manager (SCOM) and Systems Management Server (SMS). In this part article, we show you how to install and configure DPM 2007 with Service pack one on windows server 2008 and evaluate how DPM can be integrated into your overall security strategy

Installing DPM  Requirement

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.
  2. Expand Server Manager to the Features node, and then select Features.
  3. In the Features pane, click Add Features.
  4. Select Windows PowerShell, and then click Next.
  5. On the Confirm Installation Selections page, click Install.
  6. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.
  7. Expand Server Manager to the Roles node, and then select Roles.
  8. In the Roles pane, click Add Roles.
  9. In the Add Roles Wizard, on the Before You Begin page, click Next.
  10. On the Select Server Roles page, select Web Service (IIS).
  11. In the Add features required for Web Server (IIS)? message box, click Add Required Features.
  12. In the Role Services window make sure that the following Item are selected .
  13. Common HTTP Features
    1. Static Content
    2. Default Document
    3. Directory Browsing
    4. HTTP Errors
    5. HTTP Redirection
  14. Application Development
    1. ASP.NET
    2. .NET Extensibility
    3. ISAPI Extension
    4. ISAPI Filters.
  15. Heath and Diagnostics
    1. HTTP Logging
    2. Logging Tool
    3. Request Monitor
  16. Security
    1. Windows Authentication
    2. Request Filtering
  17. Performance
    1. Static Content Compression
  18. Management Tools
    1. IIS Management Console
    2. IIS Management Scripts and Tools
    3. Management Service
    4. IIS 6 Management Compatibility (all Item)
  19. Install and Single Instance Storage (SIS)
    1. At a command prompt (with elevated privileges) type: Ocsetup.exe SIS-Limited
    2. Press enter
    3. Wait for the command to complete (this can take a while)
    4. After a reboot Make sure that SIS service gets installed by verifying that "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SIS" appears in the registry.

 

Installing the DPM Server

  1. Please allow at least one hour to install DPM .
  2. In the splash window Click on Install Data Protection Manger .

  3. Accept the license terms and conditions after reading the EULA.

  4. In the Setup wizard click on Next .

  5. in the Perquisites  verify that the all the perquisites are passing, then Click Next Next

  6. in the product registration Enter your name and organization name, then click Next

  7. DPM depends 100% on the database ,to avoid networking issue and database time out please select the first option, then click Next

  8. In the security settings Enter a password for SQL instance, then click Next

  9. In the feed back option select the first option, then click Next.

  10. in the summary settings window Click install

  11. While installing DPM if you receive this window please click on Run program

  12. in the installation Window Verify that the Data protection installed successfully. and Click on Close then restart the server\12
